Major Issues Facing the MAC are the Budget, Water Shortages, the Economy and Traffic Issues
The Budget Problem
- The City of Oak Park had a surplus of $1057, 000 last year.
- A budget deficit was originally projected at $90,000 for 2010.
- The MAC watched spending carefully and now there is a projected $50,000 surplus for 2010.
- Tax revenues are expected to decrease over the next 5 years.
- Utilities rates are expected to increase.
- The budget surplus will continue to decrease but we should be revenue neutral in 2011.
- To maintain this postion we will have to watch the budget very carefully.
- The biggest discretionary item in budget is landscaping.
- See next page for Oak Park Budget
Water Shortages
- This could affect the look of the islands on Kanan and elsewhere.
- This could affect the Oak Park Budget even more than projected.
- If Oak Park uses too much water the users will be hit with a fine by MWD.
The Economy
- With the Economy in a slump it is hard to keep business in Oak Park.
- The only solution is to support businesses in Oak Park by shopping locally.
Traffic Issues
- The school district will be bringing in more kids from out of district transfers.
